Foreword
So... I have some questions, they revolve around a statement, that was bandied about quit a bit in mid-1980’s California. The assertion that “People are a part of, rather than, apart from nature.” was so overused, it is now, sadly, a bit of a cliché. I took that statement seriously then, as I do now; but again… questions. What does it mean, to be a part of nature? Well, what is nature? What is life? There is traffic across terms.
Life may be seen as a helix shaped information system spanning species and time. This six-mile-thick biofilm encircling the earth that spiraled out from a single source. The emergent property of a 14-billion-year-old process of matter and energy exchange. Encompassing clouds of electrons, swarms of galaxies and ever so briefly, you and me. We too are beings-in-process, caught in the act of becoming.
There, now you have questions too!
Questions are cowards, they run in packs, then scatter in all directions, they breed, radiate and mutate. My questions have led me on quite a chase, through some very interesting territories and the artifacts I produce, may be seen as signposts along that path. I’ll leave answers to the scientific and philosophical communities. I am seeking descriptions and directions to where I can hang my belief, spring-load my imagination and be propelled beyond my preconceptions.
